EF and LFT mainly consist of the same materials,
generally polypropylene and glass fibres. Basically however, it
is also possible to process other fibres (carbon or aramide) and
matrices (PET, PBT, PA and ABS).
The LFT moulding compound has relatively modest mechanical values
but features excellent design freedom and allows rational production
of large-area parts. The unidirectional continuous-filament strips
(EF) feature excellent mechanical properties and are able to be
inserted three-dimensionally in line with the force characteristic
and the component geometry. The LFT component can thus be reinforced
locally or in a framework structure in targeted manner with the
EF intermediate layers.
